Patchouli
Lorenzo Villoresi's Patchouli is an eau de toilette built around its namesake note, with a dry, earthy heart over a deep woody foundation. The Italian house launched it in 1996. It opens with a bright, aromatic lavender that softens the earthiness before the patchouli takes over and settles into a warm, balsamic, faintly mossy character. Vetiver gives the base a dry, smoky structure, while a quiet spiced warmth runs beneath the surface.
Wearing it feels grounded and confident rather than loud. It tends to sit fairly close to the skin in the early hours, but its strong projection means it can carry noticeably across a room. It generally holds its character well through a full day.
